Evidence Lockers

Secure evidence locker storage

Evidence Lockers

For many law enforcement agencies, handling and storing evidence in a way that fully protects the chain of custody is a challenge—especially in the critical, short-term period between when evidence leaves the hands of the officer that collected it to the time that it’s properly logged and stored in the department’s property and evidence room.

If evidence is lost or misplaced because of faulty chain of custody, it’s more than just a headache for the department. When criminals go free due to department error, a community loses faith in its law enforcement agency, grants are harder to come by, and a department has to work extra hard to gain back the trust of its constituents. This can be avoided with the right evidence locker solution—one that also helps with important accreditations from state agencies or CALEA.

In working with countless public safety agencies and police departments, Spacesaver Intermountain has gained an intricate understanding of how important this chain of custody is. To that end, we’re proud to design secure evidence locker storage specifically created with your particular agency in mind—just like we did for the Salt Lake City (SLC) Police Department. Our solution for SLC was a combination of pass-thru and non-pass-thru evidence lockers in a variety of compartment sizes, as well as a large refrigerated evidence locker for short-term biological storage.

Take a look at our options for secure evidence lockers below.

Types of Secure Evidence Lockers

DSM Evidence Lockers-12

Pass-Thru Lockers

  • Built directly into the wall, allowing evidence to be deposited from one side and retrieved from the other
  • Full-size rear door allows the evidence technician to efficiently remove items and reset the locker openings for use
  • Optional front-lock-out system is available to lock the front doors when the rear door is opened, which prevents unauthorized access to the evidence and property room through a locker opening

Non-Pass-Thru Lockers

  • Evidence is both deposited and retrieved from the same self-closing doors
  • Items can be only removed by authorized personnel
  • Lockers easily mount against a wall
  • Have the option to be converted into a pass-thru configuration at a later date

Both types of lockers include:

  • Dual latching mechanism that Resides in the door and frame, leaving the inside of the locker free from any protrusions that could damage evidence
  • Each compartment is fully enclosed to ensure no evidence spills or cross-contamination occurs between locker compartments

The refrigerated evidence lockers can be built right into the other evidence lockers with either pass-thru or non-pass-thru functionality—and can also include lockable inserts to accommodate changing sizes of biological sample storage boxes and containers.
